Galway Arts Festival production heads 'down under'

riverrun to be staged in Sydney

RIVERRUN, ONE of the most acclaimed and successful Galway International Arts Festival shows of recent times, is to be performed in Sydney, Australia, next year.

The show is performed by Breton-Irish actor Olwen Fouéré, from her own adaptation of Anna Livia Plurabelle's monologue in the final section of James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake.

A Galway International Arts Festival and TheEmergencyRoom co-production in association with Cusack Projects Limited, riverrun will be staged in Australia’s prestigious Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf 2 - located on the city’s famous waterfront by Sydney Harbour Bridge - from March 10 to April 11 2015.

Riverrun premiered in Galway in July 2013 and has since gone on to enjoy international success. It had a successful run at the 2013 Dublin Theatre Festival and at the National Theatre of Great Britain in March this year. Ms Fouéré was the recipient of two major awards last month in Edinburgh - The Stage Award for Acting Excellence and The Herald Arcangel Award.

Later this month the show will tour the USA for performances in New York, as part of the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival from (September 17 to 20 ) and at Princeton University (September 25 and 26 ).

Riverrun is directed by Kellie Hughes; the composer and sound designer is Alma Kelliher; the lighting designer is Stephen Dodd; and the costume designer is Monica Frawley.
