Oil painting classes with Aileen Moran

Aileen Moran was born within the sound of the Bow Bells in 1971 in the East End of London, making her an official Cockney.

Her family is originally from County Mayo and, after some time in England, moved back to Ireland to Salthill.  Her work is heavily influenced by the glorious surroundings of the west coast of Ireland. Aileen recently completed an oil painting masterclass of figure painting, portrait, transcription, and large still life course at the Burren College of Art under tutor Conor McGrady, dean of academic affairs.

At the age of 17, Aileen moved back to England, where she worked for Rank Xerox as a secretary, financial analyst, and technical specialist, writing software for nine years and studied in Hertfordshire. She painted in the evenings dreaming of returning to Ireland one day.

Aileen has always had a sense of adventure and loves outdoor life. She has five All-Ireland medals for athletics, has run marathons, holds a BSAC sports diving qualification, has experienced gliding, helicopter lessons, skiing, golfing, walking her three dogs, parachuting in Peterborough, and her latest passion is cycling. She featured in the 1991 television programme The Crystal Maze, and won.

Charity plays a roll in many people’s lives, and Aileen has contributed many of her oil painting works to local charities including Breastcheck, Galway Hospice, and Enable Ireland to raise funds at auctions. In 2001 she published a calendar called The Bareshakers, all in aid of these charities. She has also featured in Galway Now magazine.

She now spends her time rearing her three teenage children and teaching oil painting in her home studio, morning and evenings. She has exhibited in galleries throughout the country for more than 15 years including Kenny's, Bold Art Gallery, Deborah Donnelly@The Bad Art, Archangel, and the RDS Dublin spring and winter shows.
