NUI Galway public forum on diabetes

NUIG will be hosting a public forum on diabetes, delving into what research is doing to advance treatments for complications of Type 2 diabetes.

Titled ‘Diabetes: It’s Complicated’, the forum will take place in Room 243, Áras Moyola, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday September 9.

This free event is organised as part of the EU-funded project, Repair of Diabetic Damage by Stromal Cell Administration, or REDDSTAR.

During the forum, REDDSTAR will discuss its current projects investigating diabetic retinopathy, bone fracture repair, and wound healing. Participants will also learn about stem cells and why they are therapeutically interesting.

Speakers will include NUIG’s professor Tim O’Brien, head of research at Orbsen Therapeutics Dr Steve Elliman, and Dr Donal O’Gorman from the Centre for Preventative Medicine at DCU and DEXLIFE.

In conjunction with the event, a free foot screening will be offered from 3pm to 5.30pm in the NUIG Podiatry Skills Laboratory on the third floor of Áras Moyola.
