Public lectures on Yeats and Joyce

JAMES JOYCE the playwright and the writers who influenced WB Yeats will be the subject of two public lectures from Prof Brian Arkins.

Mr Arkins is professor emeritus of Classics at NUI Galway and an expert on Ireland’s two greatest writers.

He will deliver Crucial Writers in the work of Yeats at the Galway City Museum tomorrow at 12 noon. The lecture will look at the influence of Nietzsche, Blake, Shelly, Verlaine, The London Rhymers, and Walter Pater on Yeats.

For Bloomsday, Monday June 16, Prof Arkins will give a lecture on Joyce’s only play Exiles, and discuss his poetry, in the Galway Arts Centre, 47 Dominick Street, at 6pm.
