Fines on the double for uninsured paver

Driving on two occasions without insurance cost a Ballybane man €1,000 in fines at Galway District Court this week.

Jimmy Cleary, of Fana Glas, Ballybane, Galway, was lucky though that Judge Eamon O’Brien decided not to disqualify him from driving as well, after hearing he had taken out insurance since these offences were detected.

Sergeant Sinead Cleary gave evidence that Cleary had been detected driving without insurance in January and again in March.

Cleary told Judge O’Brien he ran a block paving business and had insurance now.

Judge O’Brien convicted and fined him €300 for driving without insurance on each occasion. He fined him €200 for failing to produce insurance and €200 for driving without tax.
