Industry, tourism, and jobs are vital, says McClearn

Bringing more industry to the Loughrea electoral area, promoting the wonderful tourist products of South East Galway, and creating jobs are the key issues for Fine Gael councillor Jimmy McClearn who has been re-elected to Galway County Council.

Speaking following his election on Sunday at the count centre at Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway, Cllr McClearn said he felt “abosolutely elated” and that his prioritie would be the same has they have always been, to tackle the issues that most affect the Loughrea electoral area.

The Ballinasloe-based councillor, who served as Mayor of County Galway for 2010-2011, was elected in the seventh count of the Loughrea electoral area. The first count resulted in Cllr McClearn receiving 1,630 first preferences. Transfers from excluded Independent Adrian Feeney (six ) in the second count, Labour’s Dessie O’Brien (83 ) in the third, Independent James Regan (51 ) in fourth brought Cllr McClearn’s votes to 1,770. Following the election of Cllr Michael “Moegie” Maher (FG ) and Anne Rabbitte (FF ) in the fourth count, McClearn received 15 tranfers in the fifth count and eight transfers in the sixth count to given him 1,793. With the exclusion of Eoghan MacCormaic, McClearn received 48 transfers to bring him 35 votes over the quota with a total of 1,841.
