Man charged with Tuam assault

A 22-year-old man charged in connection with an alleged assault which took place in Tuam last weekend leaving one man being treated for serious head injuries, is due to appear before Harristown District court tomorrow.

Gerard Coen of Doonbeg, Ballyglunin, Corofin, County Galway, was brought before Galway District Court on Monday charged with assault causing harm to David Rushe at High Street, Tuam, on May 3 last. Superintendent Noel Kelly made an application to have the accused remanded in custody with consent to bail.

Judge Gerard Furlong remanded Coen in custody with consent to bail. An application for legal aid was also granted.

David Rushe (27 ) who works as a chef in Tuam, was left with severe head injuries after the incident, which is believed to have taken place at around 2.30am on Saturday. He was rushed to University Hospital Galway but was later transfered to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
