Supermac’s head buys Loughrea Hotel & Spa

Galway businessman Pat McDonagh has purchased the Loughrea Hotel & Spa.

Built six years ago at a reported cost of €20 million, the Loughrea hotel has been operating while in receivership for the past two years.

Now the Supermac’s boss has bought the hotel, which, he says, will save 70 jobs that had been under threat.

He now plans to refurbish and upgrade the facility to “enhance many of its current facilities and offer increased levels of comfort to visitors and locals alike”.

“We are also pleased that people who have events booked in the hotel can look forward to them in confidence and can be assured of receiving the finest quality hospitality and service.”

Mr McDonagh described the hotel as a gateway facility to the west of Ireland and of “great importance to development of tourism in the west”.

“It’s a pleasure to provide hotel facilities to Loughrea and its surrounding areas as a hotel plays a vital role as an income provider in an area through its levels of employment, with visitors bringing business to the area through secondary spending and the hosting of social events and celebrations.”

McDonagh s hopes to repeat the success currently experienced with the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick which he purchased in 2012.

“ Having seen wonderful success through the growth of the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick during the last 18 months, we hope to see a similar level of progress in the development of the Loughrea Hotel & Spa as we move forward.”
