Cancer survivors choir signs up for Choirfactor

Cancers Survivors Choir Something to Sing About are the latest choral singers to sign up for Choirfactor- Galway’s own X Factor style choral competition.

Founded in 2012 by Dr Paul Donnellan, Consultant Mesdical Oncologist at Galway University Hospital, Something to Sing About provides ongoing weekly support to cancer patients through the medium choral music.

The premise behind STSA is simple; cancer survivors need ongoing support, especially from fellow survivors and evidence suggests that music is beneficial and therapeutic for cancer patients.

Something to Sing About will join the six other choirs battling it out for this year’s “Choirfactor Cup”.

NUI Galway Singers, GUH Choral Society (UHG ), GGC Salthill (Galway Golf Club ), The Medtronic Chorale, The Boston HP Party, Something to Sing About (STSA ) and Avaya Voice are all taking to the stage on the night along with a special appearance from last year’s winners The Marine Institute Singers directed by Carmel Dooley.

Last year’s Choir Factor was one of the most successful and entertaining events of 2013 and this year’s contest is shaping up to be even bigger and better than last years. The spectacle, which is organised by the SCCUL Enterprises with support from Corrib Lions Club raised over €11,000 for SCCUL Sanctuary in Kilcuan.

Corrib Lions Club President Kevin Newell is very appreciative of all the choirs and choir directors taking part.

“ I would like to thank all the people involved in making this years Choir Factor a reality, and look forward to hearing some great performances from the choirs taking part," says Kevin.

“I hope that everyone has a wonderful evening, and thank you for your support, all proceeds of which benefit the SCCUL Sanctuary.”
