Corofin celebrate success in style

2008 has been a marvellously successful year for the Corofin GAA club on the field of play, and to celebrate the club is hosting a special day of festivities on Saturday (December 27 ).

The day kicks off with Mass in St Colman’s Church, Corofin, at 2.30pm with Fr Oliver Hughes as chief celebrant.

Mass will be followed by an exhibition game between the 1998 side and the current county champions at 3.30pm in Corofin pitch. All donations at the gate will go to the parish social fund which is administered by the priests of the parish.

Later that evening some 450 Corofin supporters, club officials, and players will enjoy a celebration night in the Clayton Hotel. Iar uachtaráin Joe McDonagh is guest of honour and Ollie Turner from Galway Bay FM sport is MC for the night. Tickets are now completely sold out.

The day is expected to crown a most successful year for the club which annexed the county minor title, the county ladies senior title, and at senior level, the three important titles available - The Frank Fox cup, the Connacht club title, and they recently collected the league title after a titanic struggle with near neighbours Caherlistrane.

The senior panel, its management team, and the club can now look forward with anticipation to the All-Ireland quarter-final in London on January 18 and hopefully a place in the All-Ireland semi-final.

It is also 10 years since the club became the first in Connacht to win the All-Ireland club title in Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day 1998.
