Agnes of God at An Taibhdhearc

A YOUNG novice nun gives birth to a baby that is later found strangled. Yet the nun, Sr Agnes cannot remember either the conception or pregnancy.

A court psychiatrist Dr Livingstone, a chain-smoking lapsed Catholic, is dispatched to the convent to discover whether the nun is fit to stand trial. Livingstone believes the answer lies in Agnes’s subconscious, while the otherwise worldly Mother Superior believes a miracle might have taken place.

However Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.

This is John Pielmeier’s Agnes Of God, which will be performed by the Glenamaddy Players in An Taibhdhearc, Middle Street, this Saturday at 8pm. The cast includes Niamh Flanagan (Dr Livingstone ), Anna Flaherty (Agnes ), and Tina Ward (the Mother Superior ).
