Galway charities to benefit from The Gift concerts

Young people in distress in Galway, Alzheimer’s patients, and homeless people will benefit this Christmas from funds to be raised at a series of concerts this month.

The Gift concerts, which aim to raise €20,000 for Jigsaw, Galway Simon and Western Alzheimers, take place in the Jesuit Church, Sea Road, on Friday December 20 (8.30pm ), Saturday 21 (8.30pm ), and Sunday 22 (2pm and 8.30pm ) and in St Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road, on Saturday 21 at 2pm.

The Gift will feature the story of the Nativity sung in a lively gospel style by a choir of more than 100 voices. The music is composed by Graham Kendrick.

This is the fifth year of the concerts, which are being organised by Keara Sheeran, and which have raised more than €40,000 for Galway charities since 2009.

Keara leads church music in the Jes, Renmore Church, St Joseph’s, Bushy Park, Tuam Cathedral, and the College Chapel at NUI Galway and is a volunteer musician with The Galway Hospice and Ability West.

“My aim,” said Keara, “is to raise as much money as possible for the three charities and also to enhance the Christmas experience for the charities, our singers, and the people who will come to the concerts.”

Tickets are €10 and available from Jigsaw, Simon Galway, Western Alzheimers, or on the door.
