Galway Camogie begin All Ireland defence with tough opener

All Ireland champions Galway will begin the defence of their title at home to Wexford in the opening round of next season’s Liberty Insurance Camogie Championship.

Galway, who claimed this year’s senior title, their first since 1996, face a challenging series of round-robin games against former holders Wexford, as well as Dublin and Cork when the championship gets under way in June.

Tony Ward’s charges will be hoping to collect maximum points and secure their passage to the Liberty Insurance Senior semi-finals which will take place on August 23.

Last year’s finalists Kilkenny will entertain Offaly in the opening round, followed by games against Tipperary, Clare and Derry.

In the AIB Senior Club Championship, Ardrahan will face Kilkenny outfit Mullinavat, while Eoghan Rua (Derry ) face defending club champions Milford of Cork.
