The Galway Lions Club annual Christmas food appeal

The Galway Lions Club launches its annual Christmas food appeal on November 14. Members of the Galway Lions Club are encouraging the public of Galway to give generously as they seek to raise funds to support those people in need within the local community.

The members of the club, who are all volunteers, will be seeking the support of shoppers at different supermarkets around the town from Dunnes in Westside and Knocknacarra to the Corrib and Galway Shopping Centres, Joyces in Knocknacarra, and SuperValu in Barna.

“The money raised in the supermarket collection goes to providing food vouchers for people in our community who need extra support at Christmas time,” said Galway Lions president Pat Dennigan. “This major fundraiser for the Lions Club is so important and, when combined with the radio auction in December, helps us to have sufficient money to enable the Galway Lions Club to distribute food vouchers to hundreds families and individuals. I want to thank everyone who contributed last year , and may I thank you in anticipation of your continued support this year.”

The Galway Lions Club, which has been serving Galway for 40 years, has 60 members and meets on the second Monday of the month at 8pm in the Ardilaun Hotel.

Lions Clubs are groups of men and women who volunteer their time to try and improve the quality of lives of their local community. All money collected goes straight to those in need. No money received goes to the administration of the club.
