Sinn Féin calls on people to register to vote in 2014 elections

To make sure you have your say in next year’s local and European elections, Galwegians must register before Sunday November 24 to be included on the Draft Register for 2014.

Sinn Féin Galway City East candidate Mairéad Farrell is calling on Galwegians to register their vote. The party will be holding a registration drive this Sunday, from 1pm to 4pm, outside the shops at Ballybane.

Ms Farrell acknowledged that “apathy has become widespread” as people feel “they have no power to change the way we do politics”.

Despite this, she is encouraging Galway people to “take another look at how they do or don’t cast their vote”.

“In next year’s Local and European elections,” she said, “we have an opportunity to hit the major parties where it hurts, in the polling booths. The neo-liberal politics of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have gone unchallenged at local and national level for too long.”
