Two charged with siphoning off €2,000 worth of diesel

Two Ballybane men have been charged in relation to the siphoning and theft of more than €2,000 worth of diesel from various companies in an industrial estate in Carnmore.

Galway District Court heard on Monday how Darren Moran (23 ) with an address at 10 Gort Cam, Ballybane, and Peter McDonagh (36 ) with an address at 20 Lios Na Run, Ballybane were charged with various theft and related offences.

Moran and McDonagh are charged with two counts of stealing diesel with total value of €200, the property of Kieran Horan Ltd, at Kieran Horan Transport, Unit 2, two counts of stealing diesel, worth a total of €600, from two vehicles which are the property of Greyhound Recycling, at Kieran Horan Transport, and causing €50 worth of criminal damage by breaking the cap off a diesel tank at Glenascaul Industrial Estate, Carnmore on April 6, 2013.

They are also further charged with stealing €100 worth of diesel from Derek Ford, three counts of stealing diesel with a total value of €720 from three vehicles at Cold Move Galway Ltd, and stealing €220 worth of diesel, the property of Brian Harney, at Greyhound Unit, Glenascaul Industrial Estate on dates between June 19 and June 20.

Moran is also charged with stealing €300 worth of diesel, the property of Thomas Keane, and while not in his place of residence being in possession of a siphoning pump, 11 drums of diesel, gloves, torches, and headlights with the intention of using them in the course of a burglary or theft at Glenascaul Industrial Estate on June 20. McDonagh is also charged with stealing €300 worth of diesel on the same date and location and as well as being in possession of a siphoning pump, 11 drums, headlights, and torches with the intention of using them in the course of a burglary or theft.

McDonagh has further charges of using a vehicle with no tax or insurance in place on June 20, as well as stealing €100 worth of diesel and causing €20 worth of criminal damage by damaging the door lock of a lorry, the property of Paul Barry, at the Maldron Hotel, Oranmore, between June 18 and 20.

Both defendants were remanded in custody to appear at Galway District Court again on October 14 for DPP directions.
