Hundreds of Cookes from around the world are expected to descend on Galway for the Cooke Family Gathering which will be taking place in the Ardilaun Hotel from Friday October 4 to Sunday October 6.
Through DNA testing the organisers of this event now know how far the Cooke family tree extends. The Cooke surname can be found in many corners of not only Galway and Ireland but all over the world. Family members have emigrated to USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, many of whom will be at the gathering.
There will be a welcome reception for guests on Friday giving those who have travelled an opportunity to meet one another and share stories of their own family.
On Saturday everyone will meet again in the Ardiluan where organisers will faciliate an open session of discussion, catching up and also providing an opportunity for people to find out more about the Cooke family history. There will be a genealogist available throughout the day to help with enquiries.
The cost for the entire event is €70 per person which includes morning tea/coffee break, light lunch, afternoon tea/coffee break and an evening buffet. Traditional music will also be played by local musicians during the evening. Alternatively, people can come along in the evening time to enjoy the buffet and traditional music for €50 per person. Attendees can pay on the day.
On Sunday there is will be an optional extra bus trip around Connemara for visitors, enjoying the stunning coastal and mountains scenery, taking in Cooke’s Point, Carna, Clifden, Kylemore and Cong where the world famous Quiet Man was filmed.
