When the Duke met Harry

HARRY NILSSON is the voice of two immortal, much loved, songs, ‘Everybody’s Talkin’’ and ‘Without You’, and the man John Lennon described as “the missing Beatle”.

Despite these two singles, and the album Nilsson Schmilsson, the majority of Nilsson’s work struggled commercially. Yet despite the low profile in terms of public awareness, he was feted by, worked with, or was friends with, Phil Spector, The Monkees, Randy Newman, Glen Campbell, and Jimmy Webb.

Nilsson, who passed away in the 1990s, remains a ‘singer’s singer’ and a ‘songwriter’s songwriter’, and his great work deserves to be heard by the widest possible audience.

Enter Belfast singer-songwriter Duke Special who is bringing his new show ...Presents The Songs of Harry Nilsson at the Róisín Dubh on Monday October 14 at 9pm. There will be special guests on the night.

“Harry Nilsson is an artist whose music has always been on the periphery of my world,” Duke says, regarding why he was inspired to put this show together. “I knew some of his better known material, but was excited by the thought of exploring his music properly. I love the learning curve of delving into another artist’s work and mining for hidden gems. I want the concerts to be a showcase of Nilsson’s music and I’d love people to go away feeling satisfied, entertained, and intrigued to go exploring Harry's work for themselves.”

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
