Corrandulla residents ‘hugely’ concerned at temporary closure of health centre

A County Galway health centre, which has been described by a local politician as a “focal point” in the community, has been closed temporarily.

Cllr Mary Hoade says local residents have expressed “huge” concern at the news about Corrandulla health centre.

She says a note was placed on the door of the facility last week asking patients to contact the public health nurse in Turloughmore.

The Fianna Fail county councillor contacted HSE management and was assured that this is a temporary measure.

“I was informed that due to the moratarium on staff it is not possible to replace the nurse who is currently on leave.”

She says she has made a number of requests to the HSE to have refurbishment works carried out on the centre which is “badly in need of some repair works”.

“I have asked that the small amount of money required to have this work carried out be made available and that the work be done while it is now closed. Constituents have expressed huge concern at its closure as they have recently also lost the pharmacy in the area. This health centre is a focal point in the community and it is important that it remains open.”
