Ford launches upgraded Mondeo

Ford Ireland tells us it is now offering upgraded versions of the Mondeo with CO2 emissions reduced by up to eight per cent, improved fuel efficiency, upgraded equipment levels on mid and high series, and attractive pricing starting at €23,950 for the entry level Mondeo Graphite.

With these upgrades, Mondeo models equipped with the best-selling 2.0-litre Duratorq diesel engine will offer CO2 emissions from 119g/km - a reduction of up to 10g/km.

Ford says fuel consumption is also reduced to 4.6 l/100km (or 61mpg ) from 4.9 l/100km.

Ford also announced improved equipment levels, combined with refreshed pricing through the range. The aforementioned entry level Mondeo Graphite will offer 16-inch alloy wheels and Ford 6000 CD/radio system.

Zetec models will include SD Navigation with seven-inch touchscreen, heated windscreen, and Bluetooth connectivity with voice control and USB connection

Titanium Plus models will add a range of specification, including full leather interior, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, and SD Navigation PLUS.

Cruise Control will be standard on all 1.6-litre Duratorq diesel engine models.

“This is the most stylish, most practical, and most luxurious Mondeo that Ford has produced,” Eddie Murphy, Ford Ireland’s managing directortold the Advertiser. “With great competitive pricing and standard features such as alloy wheels on Graphite, navigation on Zetec, and full leather interior on Titanium Plus, I am sure these changes will find favour with the many drivers who love Mondeo and will surely win new fans for this great nameplate.”

Ford revised the calibration of the Mondeo’s 2.0-litre Duratorq diesel engine and optimised aerodynamics to achieve 119g/km CO2 emissions from the saloon and 120g/km from the wagon. The reductions place the cars into the low A4 motor tax band (110 to 120g/km CO2 ) with annual road tax of €200.

The improvements in CO2 emissions also benefit customers specifying 2.0-litre Duratorq engine-equipped Ford Galaxy and S-MAX models that will now offer 139g/km CO2 emissions.

Throughout the Mondeo’s 20-year history it has attracted recognition for its leading Green technologies and credentials as a business and family car.

The Ford Mondeo also provides customers with a wide array of sophisticated features including forward alert and lane keeping alert – two Ford technologies among an industry-leading seven that have been recognised with Euro NCAP Advanced rewards – in addition to adaptive cruise control, blind spot information system, adaptive front lighting system, hill launch assist and auto high beam technology.

The launch of the next generation Mondeo has been postponed due to difficulties with the closure of its plant in Belgium and new production in Spain. The new upgrades announced by Ford will keep the popular Mondeo in the shopping basket for fans in the immediate future.
