Twelve hundred tackle tag rugby at Corinthians

Galway sporting legends Johnny O'Connor and Ja Fallon are back in action every week as the Tag rugby season is in full flow at Corinthian Park in Cloonacauneen.

They have joined the 1200 rugby enthusiasts who are taking part in this fast-growing summer sport at Corinthians RFC every Thursday, making it the largest of its kind in Ireland.

The action, which boasts mixed teams, kicks off at 6pm with 40-minute matches played on 10 pitches. Scoring is a little different from traditional rugby matches with one point being awarded for a try scored by a male, and three for a female try.

The highlight of the season takes place on Thursday July 4 when all 80 teams tog out in fancy dress for the night. The fancy dress parade takes place on the main pitch under lights, starting at 10 pm, producing a spectacle second only to the Macnas Parade.

Food and drink is available on site, entry is free.
