Film fleadh opening and closing films

A SPANISH film starring Fionnuala Flanagan and Stephen Rea, and an adaptation of a John Banville novel open and close this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

The fleadh, which runs from Tuesday July 9 to Sunday 14, and which celebrates it’s 25th anniversary this year, opens with Spanish rom-com Tasting Menu, featuring Flanagan and Rea and directed by Roger Gual.

It centres around Marc and Rachel who have booked a table in a top class restaurant in the Costa Brava. When it turns out the booking is on the same date as the last night before the restaurant closes for good, it is the first in a series of unexpected things to happen.

The Sea, an adaptation of John Banville’s novel of the same name, will be the closing film. It stars Ciarán Hinds, Charlotte Rampling, Natascha McElhone, Rufus Sewell, and Sinéad Cusack, and is directed by Stephen Brown.

Grieving after the death of his wife, Max Morden (Hinds ) returns to the seaside resort where he spent summers as a child, forcing him to confront past traumas.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall Theatre (091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie ). See also www.galwayfilmfleadh.com
