British soldier to speak in Galway on ‘war on terror’

Joe Glenton, who served in the British army’s Royal Logistics Corps in Afghanistan, but who has since become a vocal critic of the War on Terror, will speak in Galway next week.

Mr Glenton will address a public meeting, organised by the Galway Alliance Against War, in Richardson’s, Eyre Square, on Thursday June 20 at 8pm.

Having joined the army in the belief that he was going to serve his nation with valour and honour in the War on Terror, Mr Glenton’s tour of duty in Afghanistan turned him into a passionate campaigner against war.

He refused to return to fight in Afghanistan and was branded a ‘coward’, which would eventually lead to him going AWOL and then spending time in jail for refusing to follow orders.

At the public meeting, Mr Glenton will give his account of a personal war against ‘the war on terror’ and he launch his new book, Soldier Box: Why I Won't Return to the War on Terror, which John Pilger has described as “one of the finest books I have read on the military and war by an insider”.

All are welcome and admission is free
