Get a Cúirt author to read in your kitchen

Alongside the traditional readings in the Town Hall and book launches, the Cúirt festival will also reach out to the public with a series of imaginative events and gatherings.
The Cúirt International Festival of Literature, which runs from April 23 to 28, will again host The Kitchen Readings. This is where the public invite established authors into their homes for a reading.
This year’s guest is novelist, author, and playwright Michael Harding. He has published three novels - Priest, The Trouble With Sarah Gullion, and Bird In The Snow. Harding has worked with The Abbey Theatre and written 19 plays. His new memoir, Staring at Lakes, has just been published.
The project is in association with Ballybane Library and Westside Library which will be selecting the participating homes in the Westside and Ballybane areas. Those who would like to host a Kitchen Reading should contact Ballybane Library (091 - 380590, ballybane@galwaylibrary.ie) or Westside Library (091 - 520616, westside@galwaylibrary.ie).
Cúirt will also be continuing its annual Read Me, I’m Yours activity, where a number of ‘visiting authors’ books will be placed in pubs, cafés, and hotel foyers across Galway city so that people can pick them up and read them. Flyers with information on the time and date of the relevant authors reading will be inside these books.
The Cúirt outreach programme will also host One Book, One Tuam, a project which aims to promote community and literacy. Each child and adult in Tuam will be encouraged to read Faraway Home by Marilyn Taylor, who recently visited Presentation National School Tuam to meet fifth and sixth class pupils.
Patricia Ford will also do a children’s event in An Cheathrú Rua Library. A music and word event Atlas of The Great Irish Famine will also take place in Cnoic Suain’ Spidéal on the Sunday of the festival.
