Galway rally fans urged to contact Rally Ireland

Galway rallying fans are being urged to contact Rally Ireland if they wish to work on one of the largest sporting events of 2009.

From January 29 to February 1 Rally Ireland will take place across the north west of Ireland with the world’s best rally drivers battling it out in the first round of the World Rally Championship 2009 over 19 stages.

Key Galway personnel involved in the running of Rally Ireland are urging fans to contact them if they are interested in volunteering to work on what promises to be the event of 2009.

Headford and Galway Motor Club’s Joe O’Connell and and Rally Ireland’s marshall coordinator for the midwest, Sheila Patrick of Tynagh, are urging fans to get involved.

“In 2007 we had a huge interest from Galway rally fans when the rally last occurred in Ireland,” says Patrick. “ In just over a month the event will occur again and it is a superb opportunity for anyone interested in rallying to become involved in the organisation of the first round of the World Rally Championship. Where else will an opportunity arise to work on an event that will see international rallying legends such as five times world champion Sebastien Loeb and the Finnish legend Mikko Hirvonen compete?”

For the first time in 50 years, Ireland has been given the honour of replacing Monte Carlo as the first round of the World Rally Championship which will reach a global TV audience of more than 800 million.

Rally Ireland 2009 will travel through seven counties in the north and south of Ireland, including Cavan, Leitrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Sligo, Donegal, and Roscommon. All those interested should contact Sheila Patrick at [email protected] or contact Joe O’Connell after 6pm on 087 2262910
