Classical concert and album launch

A CONCERT featuring Lynda Lee, one of Ireland’s leading sopranos, and an album launch by clarinettist Paul Roe, both take place next week.

Music For Galway and the Galway Music Residency will host the launch of Paul Roe’s new album, Dreams & Prayers, in the Town Hall Theatre Bar on Tuesday from 1.10pm to 1.50pm. The launch will include a performance by Roe and the ConTempo Quartet.

Dreams & Prayers includes a specially commissioned piece by Nick Roth, Jane O’Leary’s ‘Soundshapes II’, and ‘Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind’ by Argentinean Composer Oswaldo Golijov. Admission is free and all are welcome.

The next Music For Galway concert is The Voice and the Harp on Thursday March 7 at 8pm in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway. The concert features County Antrim soprano Lynda Lee and Andreja Malír, principal harpist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

A ‘dabbler’ in composition, Andreja was commissioned by RTE lyric fm to compose a song cycle for soprano and harp on a setting of poems by WB Yeats with Lynda Lee and which made it on to the Hiccup album, marking 10 years of the best Lyric commissions.
