Major changes to city electoral wards to be announced next week

Galway city’s three electoral wards are next week due for major revisions ahead of next year’s Local Elections with extra seats for two wards, Galway City East to lose a seat, and Menlo, Castlelawn, and Tirellan to be transferred into Galway City Central.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan established the Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee late last year to review the local electoral make-up of the State ahead of the 2014 Local Elections. The committee is due to publish its recommendations next week, either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Skinnies or not skinnies

Skinny jeans have been around for some time now, and are still a coveted piece in a contemporary wardrobe. But this season we are seeing the return of the classic bootleg jeans, and I wonder if they had even gone away? To my eyes bootleg jeans clearly never went out of fashion, but skinny jeans took centre stage and it is no surprise that we thought skinnies were the only denim that were fashionable.

DNG Maxwell Heaslip and Leonard launches June auctions

Leading auctioneering firm DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard last week launched the latest in its summer series of auctions. Following the company’s successful May auctions, which saw ten lots be brought to the market, it has brought six more lots to the open market with huge interest already reported at the twice-weekly open viewings.

Summer cyclists – a new and colourful hazard on the roads

Working for the AA can get you into hottish water from time to time. There are those who contact me on a fairly regular basis about the behaviour of cyclists. A lot of people have a lot to say about badly behaved cyclists on our roads and a few suggest colourful and rather draconian punishments for them.
