Join community dance to highlight need to end violence against women

A domestic violence response group, set up to tackle the problem in Connemara, is urging people to join with activists around the world in the One Billion Rising, the largest day of action planned to highlight the need to end violence against women and girls.

Domestic Violence Response (DVR ) is appealing to the public to join its members in a community-led dance facilitated by Gwen McHale today (Thursday ) at 1pm at the fountain in Eyre Square.

One in three women is raped or beaten in her lifetime. That is one billion women violated, says a spokesperson for DVR.

“One billion daughters, mothers, grandmothers, sisters, lovers and friends. We are inviting one billion women and those who love them to walk out, dance, rise up, and demand an end to this violence.”
