Hectic programme of events for Halloween week at Coole Park

Families across the Galway region should reserve a few hours for the ‘Deireadh an Fomhair’ celebrations at Coole Park during the October Bank Holiday weekend. The line-up of events commences on Sunday October 28 with a multitude of activities to appeal to children collectively known as ‘Spooky Stuff For Kids’. Spooky Stuff For Kids consists of smelly spell cocktail and stick skeleton making, with an eerily themed scavenger hunt to finish the day. Children are invited to arrive bedecked in a Halloween costume but they do not have to dress up. The fun begins at 2.30pm and ends at 4pm.

The next portion of events takes place on Monday with a guided tree walk tour at 2.30pm. This is all inclusive day for the whole family and will be both an enjoyable family day out and an educating experience. Visitor staff will treat the walkers to a journey into the history of Coole by mirroring it through the various tree planting stages along the route. Participants can expect to spot native and non-native species throughout the walk and the day will be punctuated by an exploration into the remains of the Pinetum of exotic conifers that once belonged to Sir William Gregory.

The three day long event concludes on Tuesday at 2.30pm with a discovery of the effects of the autumn season on the changing colours of the wood’s landscape. The attendance can enjoy crunching the leaves beneath their feet, counting the different colours in the wood, and looking for signs of animals.

The tearoom opening hours for the Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend are 12 noon to 5pm, while on Tuesday, the tea room will be closed for the day. Booking is not necessary and all events are free. For any further inquiries contact Coole Park on 091 631804 or send an e-mail to [email protected]
