Wegians must convert chances against Bective

Galwegians suffered a disappointing start to their Ulster Bank League division 2 campaign, losing to hosts Terenure by 19 - 8 in Dublin on Saturday.

However they return to Crowley Park on Saturday and will hope to use home advantage to grab a victory over visitors Bective Rangers who lost at home to Highfield last weekend by 33-26.

Playing with a stiff breeze, Wegians failed to convert some early penalty chances, allowing the home side to build an 8-0 lead. Strong Blues defence kept the home side out and Wegians eventually were rewarded when outhalf Tadhg Leader landed a successful penalty.

However a silly mistake from the kickoff gave possession back to Terenure and a kickable penalty quickly followed before the broke through the hard-working Galwegians defence for a second try.

Wegians, and their dominant scrum, got a deserved pushover with No 8 Eoin Rooney getting the touchdown, but frustratingly for the Blues, another indiscretion from the kickoff gave Terenure another kickable penalty chance for a 19-8 advantage.
