I would like to thank…

The Emmys, aka the Oscars of the small screen, took place in LA earlier this week. Now I am not one to stay up until the crack of dawn checking out all the red carpet glam, or lack thereof, but the red carpet arrivals of this particular ceremony caught my eye. Selecting a best dressed list is never an easy task, especially when there are aspects of a look that are superb and others that are mediocre. This year's Emmys were certainly a stylish affair, for both the girls and boys, and may spark some colourful new trends. So who wins my award for the best dressed?

Cat Deeley

Since moving to the US, Cat Deeley has come into her own in terms of career and, of course, style. The Emmys saw her gracefully wear a red one-shouldered gown with a fish tail that complemented her fabulous figure just perfectly. Keeping her hair away from her face was key to this look to show off the detail of the dress across the shoulder. Red is not an easy colour to wear, but this shade was soft and not brassy. If you like red, and want to emulate Cat's look, check out this red mini dress from UK label Bon Prix (£34.99 ).

January Jones

Ah, the Goth trend. Someone had to rock it and I could not be happier that it was January Jones. Black organza with a low cut top worked beautifully on January and it was refreshing to see her try something new, and perhaps a little darker. Despite the severe look of her hair, it worked alongside some darker tones in her eye make-up, which was softened with a pink lipstick. The Goth trend has taken over this season with leather and black dominating the catwalk. Working this look into your wardrobe is quite easy, especially if you are a fan of the little black dress. Experiment with your make-up too, and see if you can create something dramatic (Black maxi, Awear, €90 ).

Jessica Pare

White can be worn all year round, no matter what anyone tells you, and sometimes it can look really chic in the colder months. Jessica Pare just rocked a white dress with black belt, illustrating that simple is always effective. I am not usually a white dress fan, I prefer to wear white in separates, especially jumpers and T-shirts. Accessorising white is also really easy and it can work with nearly every piece of jewellery you have on your dressing table. For inspiration, take a look at Littlewoods Ireland, New Look, and Next for a great selection of pieces for autumn winter.

And in other news

Aside from the red carpet reports, there is lots happening in the world of fashion. Next week, Italian fashionista Anna della Russo launches her new collection with H&M, full of blingtastic accessories and shoes. Watch out for the over the knee boots, they are worth a peek.

Brands such as Debenhams are also gearing up for Christmas and will start to launch new collections for him and her in time for the party season. I particularly like this lace peplum dress from Star by Julien McDonald (€132 ) which is just a taste of what is to come.
