Fun for all the family at the Clarenbridge Oyster festival

Saturday’s family fun day organised by the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival has been designed to provide the kind of entertainment, relaxation, and respite that all families crave when looking for somewhere to spend a day out.

The Oyster Festival is now entering its 58th year which confirms a dedication in fulfilling the requirements in organising a memorable day out.

There will be a range of activities to keep all family members from the different age brackets entertained. There will be a colouring contest, duck racing, the pearl hunt, and the school-yard favourite tug-of-war competition to appeal to the more youthful attendants.

The musical ensembles of Oddity and Amazing Apples have been tasked with the responsibility of keeping the dance floor well populated from 1pm - 6pm. Even if the Irish climate fails to deliver, the crowd’s irrepressible spirit will shine through. PRO of the organising committee Kilcolgan native Joyce Conlon asserts that people from all over Ireland gravitate to Clarenbridge every year for this occasion. “People come from all parts to enjoy the day and it never disappoints.”

She also commented on the consistency of success involved in the family fun day. “It’s always a great success. There is always a great buzz in the village and in the marquee and thankfully the weather has always been pleasant which is great for everyone to be able to sit out and enjoy the atmosphere.”

No family outing is complete without a hearty meal and those intent on participating in the family fun day will have their appetite satisfied with a platter of rustic meals from Paddy Burke and his associates. Kerrigan’s Londis will be sponsoring the event and tickets can be located online or at the festival marquee on the day at inviting prices - €10 for adults, €5 for under 18s, and children under 12 will be granted free admission.
