UHG seeks permission for two storey car park

The chronic lack of car-parking spaces at University Hospital Galway could soon be a thing of the past if an application for a two-storey deck car parking gets the go-ahead from city planners.

The Health Service Executive West has recently lodged the application with the Galway City Council planning department and a decision is expected to be made by October 10 next. If granted approval it will result in the construction of a double storey deck car park with spaces for 238 vehicles together with associated site works.

According to the application the new double storey deck car park will be located on the existing car park at the Newcastle Road site, between the pathology building and the paediatric unit.

Meanwhile, a decision is expected to be made next week on an application by Galway Mayo Institute of Technology on the development of a two-storey multi-functional sports building at the Dublin Road campus.

According to the application, which was lodged with city planners on July 4, the development will also consist of car parking, ESB substation, signage, landscaping and all associated site development works and services. Vehicular access to the development will be via the existing access road off Ballyloughaun Road, and it will also result in the provision of new and improved pedestrian and bus stop facilities.
