Thanks for helping heart fundraising event
Dear Editor,
Recently the Irish Heart Foundation’s 23rd Happy Heart Weekend saw volunteers take to the streets and shopping centres across Galway city and county to help raise money by selling happy heart badges. As the regional fundraiser for the Irish Heart Foundation I get to meet so many generous, warm hearted and kind people through my role. And sometimes it is hard to convey to all these people the thanks and appreciation that I personally have for them and the foundation as a whole.
Therefore, I want to express my sincere thanks to all those who helped make Happy Heart Weekend the success it was. Firstly, to the volunteers who took time out of their busy lives to support the weekend. Happy Heart Weekend would not exist without their consistent support. To all the shopping centres and supermarkets who gave us permission to use their premises, for helping our volunteers out with tables, chairs and endless cups of tea! To the local media who helped to promote the campaign.
And finally to all the people who supported the weekend by buying a happy heart badge or making a donation. Your generosity is helping the Irish Heart Foundation to keep up our fight against heart disease and stroke. Your donation will go towards our work in research, prevention, CPR training, and awareness campaigns. As well as allowing us to continue to provide vital patient support through our helpline, support groups and patient literature. With over 90 per cent of our funding from the general public we literally could not continue our work without your support.
It was so encouraging over the weekend to experience the positivity from people and it shows that even in these tough times our innate generosity remains.
Yours sincerely,
David Muldoon
