Colga’s title defence opens brightly

Colga Ladies began their defence of the Galway & District League Ladies premier league title with an emphatic 8 - 0 victory over Oranbay 90 at a wet and windy Kilcornan.

. It did not take long for Colga to assert themselves with Rebecca McPhilbin, Lisa Casserly and Marian Murray taking control of the middle of the park and, when Oranbay did break through, they found an unforgiving defence marshalled by Aine Seoige.

A Lisa Casserly break from midfield set up Rebecca Philbin for goal number one, while the second came from midfield again when captain Marian Murray supplied Sabina Smyth who finished to the net.

Murray then added the third after a corner from Carol Mannion, who grabbed the fourth before converting a penalty after being taken down in the box.

The second half was much the same with Colga well in control. McPhilbin grabbed her second goal while Mannion set up replacement Rachel Bannon for the seventh. The final goal was scored by centre half Aine Seoige, set up by Yvonne Walsh.
