Trial for man accused of false imprisonment

A 28-year-old man accused of falsely imprisoning a person at a city centre restaurant has been sent forward for trial.

Chandravee Jhurry with an address given as 50 Woodfield, Cappagh Road, Barna, and formerly of 74 Cill Ard, Bohermore, was brought in custody before Galway District Court on Monday charged with the false imprisonment of a person at Mauritian Creole Cuisine, Forster Street, on January 16, 2012, contrary to Section 15 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Garda Padraig Healy gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused. Inspector Mick Coppinger said that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the accused being returned for trial to the next sittings of the Galway Circuit Criminal Court commencing May 1. He then made an application for Jhurry to be returned in custody.

Judge Mary Fahy confirmed the order for Jhurry to be returned in custody for trial to Galway Circuit Criminal Court on May 1. Legal aid was also granted plus one junior counsel
