Free health screening for men

Men can learn more about making lifestyle changes which will benefit their health at a free information evening at the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry on Monday at 7pm.

The men’s health event, which is being organised by the HSE West’s primary care team in Athenry, aims to heighten awareness about health issues and provide information on lifestyle changes that can help prevent ill health.

Free health screening begins at 7pm and includes a blood pressure and blood sugar check and body mass index calculation. Health Professionals from the team including GPs, a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, practice nurses, public health nurses and community mental health nurses will attend.

Information will be available concerning stroke, cardiovascular and mental health, healthy eating, being active, reducing your risk of cancer and giving up smoking.

Talks will take place from 8pm and speakers will concentrate on cholesterol and heart health, prostate health, diet, physical activity and exercise. An inhaler workshop will be available for anyone who wishes to review their inhaler use.

Booking is not necessary for the evening. The talks, workshops and screening are free and men and women are welcome.
