ROPES is launched today

ROPES, THE literary journal compiled annually by students of the MA in literature and publishing in NUI Galway, will be launched at 5pm in Busker Brownes, Cross Street.

The journal will be launched by playwright Marina Carr, winner of The Irish Times Best New Play award. There will also be readings from Mike McCormack and Fiona Farrelly.

ROPES 2012 is the publications 20th edition and the theme this year is ‘Links’ and the articles deal with reflections on the past, representations of the present, and engagements with the future. Among the contributors are journalist John Waters and County Galway novelist and short story writer Nuala Ní Choncúir.

“ROPES is one of Ireland’s most distinguished student publications,” said Dr Julia Carlson Kilroy, director of the MA programme. “Produced, edited and designed by students, it provides a showcase for established and emerging writers.”

The event is part of the Cúirt International Festival of Literature. ROPES costs €10 and all proceeds will be donated to the Laura Lynn House, a branch of the Children’s Sunshine Home, Ireland’s children’s hospice.
