Further remand for couple accused of handling stolen Lackagh graveyard statues

A couple charged with the handling of property stolen from a graveyard in Lackagh have been further remanded on bail until next month.

The Romanian nationals, Marian Lingurar (35 ) and Crista Rostas (30 ) with a former rental address in Lackagh, Claregalway, appeared before Galway District Court on Monday. They are charged with numerous counts of handling stolen statues and crosses from Lackagh Cemetery on October 4, 2011.

Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions were not yet ready as the file involves a “large number of charges” and the matter is still being dealt with. However, Inspector Coppinger added that he expected the DPP directions to be furnished shortly and asked for the matter to be adjourned.

Judge Mary Fahy then adjourned the case to March 7 next for DPP directions.
