Galway to host Irish premier of A Tale of Two Cities

TO MARK the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Dickens, the Galway Musical Society will present the Irish premiere of the Broadway musical A Tale of Two Cities.

The Irish premiere night will be Wednesday March 21 at 8pm and there will be a wine and food reception from 7pm. The play will run until Saturday March 24.

A Tale of Two Cities is set against the brutal conflicts between the rebels and aristocracy during the French revolution and its parallel world in 19th century London society, and centres on one man’s ultimate sacrifice for love.

The cast will include Alan Greaney (Sidney Carton ), Bláithín Walsh (Lucy Mannette ), Diarmuid Scahill (Charles Darnay ), Stephen Macken (Dr Alexandre Manette ), Katie Craven (Madame Defarge ), Liam Brennan (Earnest Defarge ), Ursula Owens (Miss Pross ), Seán Hosty (Barsad ), Jim Dillon (Marquis St Everemonde ), Marcus Wynne (Stryver ), Mikey Walsh (Gaspard ), and Andrew Gallagher (the attorney general ).

A Tale of Two Cities will be directed by Brian and Seán Power. The musical director will be Shane Farrell with choreography by Mary MacDonagh, the chorus director is Paddy Daly, set design by Brendan Savage, and lighting design by Jim Faulkner.
