GAAW vigil to mark seventh year of Afghan war

The Galway Alliance Against War will hold a Vigil at the Wilde statue on Williamsgate Street today at 1pm to mark the seventh anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.

The GAAW has called on the Government to withdraw Irish officers who are part of NATO’s occupying force in Afghanistan. The local peace group claim the officers are from Mellows Barracks in Renmore.

It is also seven years ago this month that GAAW was formed, but the local peace activists don’t view this ‘birthday’ as a happy occasion and will have black balloons at today’s event. The next meeting of the GAAW committee takes place on Monday December 1 at 8pm in the One World Centre, Bridge Mills. All are welcome to attend.
