Misterman nominated for Irish Times Theatre Awards

MISTERMAN, THE powerful and much-acclaimed drama, written by Enda Walsh, and featuring a tour-de-force performance from Cillian Murphy has been nominated for four Irish Times Theatre Awards.

The show, a Galway Arts Festival and Landmark co-production, has received a phenomenal reaction from audiences in both Ireland and New York. The four awards shortlisted are; Best Production (Landmark Productions and Galway Arts Festival ), Best Actor (Cillian Murphy ), Best Designer Lighting (Adam Silverman ), and Best Designer Set (Jamie Vartan ).

Misterman has been shortlisted alongside Anu Productions’ Laundry, Lyric Theatre’s, The Crucible, and Pan Pan Theatre’s All That Fall.

“We are delighted to receive the four nominations,” said the Galway Arts Festival’s artistic director Paul Fahy. “We are especially pleased for Cillian, Enda, Adam, Jamie and all our Misterman company who have worked so hard on this production and were key in it being so well received here and in New York.”

GAF chief executive John Crumlish added: “The festival is honoured to be shortlisted for the awards and we are delighted with the reception Misterman has received from audiences and critics both in Ireland and in the USA.

“On behalf of us all at the festival I would like to thank the Arts Council, Culture Ireland, Fáilte Ireland, and all those who support the festival and have been very important in helping make this production possible both here and in New York.”

There was further good news for Galway theatre in the awards as Karl Shiels was also nominated for a Best Actor award for his role as Quinn in Enda Walsh’s Penelope, which was directed by Mikel Murfi for Druid Theatre Company.

The 2012 Irish Times Theatre Awards ceremony will take place in IMMA on Sunday February 26.
