Why am I, a lowly truck driver, a lower form of humanity than Crowe?
I attended the household tax protest which was held at city hall on Monday January 9. I am very angry that the people who have been voted to represent me are forcing another oppressive tax upon me and my family. I have lost all confidence in our political system; those voted locally are supposed to act in our best interest. How do you class adding another bill to the already stretched family incomes, as acting in our best interest? Why won’t you stand beside the people who voted for you? If your answer is that you are afraid of Leinster house…then you are acting in your own interest, not that of your electorate.
I asked a number of my friends if they would be attending the protest. Most wished they could but because of work or family commitments, could not make it. They asked me to represent them at the protest. I was horrified and deeply insulted to hear the following day that Cllr Michael Crowe labeled the protesters the “lowest form of humanity” I have taken this as a personal attack on me and those I represented.
Mr Crowe…you obviously think very highly of yourself to make such a judgment. Are you saying that you are a higher form of life than I? In what way are you a better human than I? What is it about me you find so despicable? Do you despise the fact that I am an ordinary Galway man who drives a truck for a living? Maybe you despise that I earn less than €30,000 per annum, so am not in your league? Maybe you despise that fact that I am a father and fighting to save my €100 to pay for my children, rather than line any more banker’s or politicians’ pocket? Do you despise the fact that I am a helpful neighbour and that I am standing up for myself, my family and my community…because that is what you should be doing?
In my opinion, the prisons are filled with what I would call the “lowest form of humanity”, and for you to class me, an ordinary decent hard working Galway man, in that category, is disgraceful. You have not only insulted me, but you have insulted every other human similar to me. You owe me and many other decent Galway people, who are against the household tax an apology.
Wake up people of Galway. Why are we electing people who label us “the lowest form of humanity” for objecting to wrong policies being forced upon us by a greedy government? Why are we electing people who don’t protect us from unjust and unfair taxes?
Stand up! Speak out for your rights. The bankers, developers and highly paid politicians caused this mess…Tax them. You, the voter, demand they be taxed and pay back what they took. Don’t pay the household tax. Don’t vote in anyone who is not willing to tax the outrageously paid. It is time to fight back.
