SVP says Thank you
Dear Editor,
You and your staff have always been huge supporters of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Throughout the years you have carried our weekly ad for The Curiosity Shop in Merchants Road to which the people of Galway have donated saleable goods which they no longer require. Unfortunately but not surprisingly a growth of 38 per cent has occurred in the last year in demand for our supports. A great number of these people would have been contributors to our society in the past but due to no fault of their own now find themselves needing help to hold on to a reasonable standard of living for themselves and their families.
The people of Galway must be amongst the most generous in the world in giving to us almost € 1,500,000 to distribute on their behalf to those in need in Galway during 2011. That our Christmas Appeal is up 15% on last year which in these times is incredible. The money was collected primarily through The Curiosity Shop, personal and company donations, supermarket collections, and our Annual Church Gate and Christmas door to door collections. In turn it was distributed by our 200 volunteers who week in and week out visit the needy of Galway to provide essential food, fuel, clothing, education fees, advice, advocacy services etc in almost 12,000 home visits.
As a consequence of the above I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you, your readers, our very generous benefactors, our wonderful volunteers and staff who make it possible for those less able, to put their pride aside and obtain help from this society. As “a problem shared is a problem halved” and” is ar scáth a cheile a mhaireann na daoine” we want to say Go raibh mile maith agaibh go leir.
For real support please call us anytime on 56322 and we will respond quickly and positively.
Le gach dea ghui do 2012
Val Mc Nicholas
Galway Area President SVP.
