Celebrate the music of Franz Liszt

THE 200TH anniversary of the birth of Franz Liszt, one of the great masters of romantic music both as composer and pianist, will be marked by a concert in Galway.

The Liszt 200 Anniversary Concert will take place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on Friday December 9 at 8pm.

The concert has been arranged by composer and pianist Tom Cullivan in association with Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe.

Performing will be Hungarian clarinettist Róbert Sólyom, accompanied by pianist Elenan Gekker. His programme will include two of Liszt’s celebrated Hungarian Rhapsodies arranged by Tom Cullivan.

Elena Gekker will play as her solos two of Liszt’s piano pieces, the Gnomen-reigen and the Rigoletto Paraphrase. Soprano Sandra Schalks will sing song versions of two of Liszt’s Consolations, again arranged by Tom Cullivan, and Liszt’s best-loved song, ‘O Lieb’.

Admission is €15.
