Oughterard may have the scoring edge

After last weekend’s exciting draw in the intermediate football final, Oughterard and Kilconly clash again this Sunday at Pearse Stadium (3.45pm ) in a really attractive double header with Tuam Stars and Salthill/Knocknacarra in senior action at 2pm.

Oughterard are expected by many pundits to collect the title and they are 4/6 favourites, with the North board men available at 5/4 with Mulhollands. It is 6/1 the draw.

The reason most people fancy Kevin Clancy’s men to bring home the silverware is that they have a lot of scoring potential up front in Mattie Clancy, Joe Joe Greaney, Ronan Molloy, Martin Coady and Conrad Clancy.

They were not pleased with the intensity with which they played last weekend and hope to pick it up a notch or two this Sunday. They will need to.

Bernard Brady’s team had good displays last Sunday from Barry Concannon, John Paul Steede, Adrian Murphy, Alan Walsh and team captain Kevin Brady. They will need more of those types of performances all over the pitch this weekend if they are to be in the senior ranks in 2012.

There probably will not be much between them again on Sunday, but I expect Oughterard team captain Chris O’Toole to walk up the steps after a titanic battle and a narrow victory.
