Galway’s Townhouse claims first FAI fives

A Galway team, sponsored by the Townhouse Bar, has claimed the FAI’s first annual five-a-side title.

The Townhouse team overcame Astro Villa from Dublin by 3-2 in the final played at the Aviva Stadium.

Some great defence from Martin O’Connor, goalkeeper Eamonn Feeney, and midfielder Gary Traynor kept the Galway side in the final, while at the other end goals from Colin Coyle and Jonny O’Brien rounded off a great team effort. Christos Eco put in some essential tackles near the end to ensure the Townhouse finished worthy winners.

Missing from the final were the injured Keith Farrell and striker David Smith.

En route to the final the Townhouse overcame local opposition over the summer to top the Galway League before winning the Connacht final. They then overcame Spartek Treasure from Athlone in the semi-final with goals from captain Colin Coyle and midfielder Jonny O’Brien sealing their place in the final.
