Funeral takes place for Laois man who died after car dealership accident

A Laois man, who tragically died after being crushed while loading cars at a city car dealership, was laid to rest this week.

Paddy Byrne (48 ) from The Green, Stradbally, lost his life after receiving significant chest injuries while two cars were being loaded on to a truck outside Windsor Motors on the Monivea Road last week. Grieving family and friends attended a funeral service at The Sacred Heart Church in Stradbally on Tuesday which was followed by burial at Oakdale churchyard.

Since the tragic accident occurred investigations were launched by the gardai and the Health and Safety Authority with the latter currently examining CCTV footage to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident which led to the tragic death of Mr Byrne.

It is believed that Mr Byrne became trapped between the door of one of two cars which were being loaded onto a transporter and the lorry’s ram at around 1pm last Thursday, August 25. He had been collecting the vehicles from the dealership’s repair department to bring to his brother’s dimantling business at Killone in Stradbally. It is understood that Mr Byrne was found by a customer in a semi-conscious state and was rushed to University Hospital Galway, however he died from his injuries at around 3am the following day.
