Fun-filled activity day for Chernobyl children in Galway

The 30 Belarusian children and their two translators being hosted by Galway families this summer recently enjoyed an activity day as part of their month-long break in Galway.

Over the course of the last month the visitors have been looked after by families spread throughout Galway city and county. The children, who are hosted in pairs, have been entertained by the volunteering host families. They come together once a week as a group for an activity day, organised by the local support group Camp Claddagh, an affiliate of the Chernobyl Children’s Project.

The children are pictured here on one such activity day, where the Rahoon GAA clubhouse was provided to facilitate a disco and arts and crafts class. The children had just come from a morning of fun and frolics in Perks Funfair, Salthill, with transport between the two venues provided by the Western Veteran & Vintage Motor Club.

The generosity of the Galway public and businesses has been superb again this year. The picture shows Subway presenting food for the day, which the company had sponsored.
