€72k cannabis seizure accused pleads guilty to drug dealing charge

A man charged in connection with the seizure of cannabis, estimated to be worth in the region of €72,000, last December has pleaded guilty to drug dealing.

At Tuesday’s sitting of Galway Circuit Criminal Court David Wilson (22 ) with an address given as 71 Baile an Choiste, Headford Road, was arraigned and pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, to wit cannabis, with intent to sell or supply to others, at Dublin Road, Murrough, on December 6, 2010, contrary to Section 15(a ) of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Bernard Madden, SC, told the court that his client has had a “long and troubled history” and suffers from addiction problems; however, he added that Wilson is attending a counsellor while in custody to address these issues. Mr Madden added that a probation and welfare report would be needed in this matter.

Judge Raymond Groarke then adjourned the case to November 10 and requested the probation services to prepare a psychologist’s report as well as probation and welfare report
